Insoluble in water, soluble in petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, mineral oil and other organic solvents. Melting point approximately 37-60°C, density 0.84 g/cm³, closed-cup flash point approximately 198°C, boiling point approximately 322°C (mixture, no fixed boiling point). Stable in nature, not reactive with strong acids, strong bases, oxidizing agents or reducing agents; may slowly oxidize and darken under long-term light exposure.
Uses:Petroleum jelly is widely used as a base for cosmetic and pharmaceutical ointments for moisturizing and skin protection.
