Soluble in organic solvents such as THF and diethyl ether; reacts violently with water.
Uses:As a Grignard reagent, it is mainly used for carbon–carbon bond formation in organic synthesis. It undergoes nucleophilic addition with carbonyl compounds such as aldehydes and ketones to produce alcohols, and can also react with esters, epoxides and alkyl halides. It is widely applied in the synthesis of pharmaceutical intermediates, agrochemicals and fine chemicals.
