- 白色或乳白色纤维状粉末或颗粒，几乎无臭、无味，具吸湿性。密度0.5-0.7 g/cm³。易溶于水形成透明胶状溶液，不溶于乙醇等有机溶剂。1%水溶液pH为6.5-8.5，pH大于10或小于5时粘度显著降低，pH=7左右性能最佳。对热稳定，80℃以上长时间加热可使胶体变性导致粘度和性能明显下降。在碱性溶液中稳定，遇酸易水解，pH为2-3时出现沉淀，遇多价金属盐也会反应生成沉淀。

Physical Properties:White or off-white fibrous powder or granules, almost odorless and tasteless, hygroscopic. Density 0.5-0.7 g/cm³. Easily soluble in water forming a transparent colloidal solution, insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol. The pH of a 1% aqueous solution is 6.5-8.5. When pH is above 10 or below 5, the viscosity of the mucilage decreases significantly, with optimal performance around pH 7. Stable to heat; prolonged heating above 80°C can cause colloidal denaturation and a marked decrease in viscosity and performance. Stable in alkaline solutions, but readily hydrolyzed by acids; precipitation occurs at pH 2-3, and reaction with polyvalent metal salts also produces precipitates.
Uses:Used as a thickener, emulsifier, binder, film-forming agent, water-retention agent and suspending agent. In the food industry, it is applied to beverages, dairy products, jelly, ice cream, etc., to improve stability and mouthfeel. In the pharmaceutical industry, it serves as a tablet binder, film-forming material and drug carrier. It is also widely used in petroleum drilling as a mud stabilizer, textile sizing agent, detergent anti-redeposition agent, papermaking sizing agent, and thickener in cosmetics and toothpaste.
