Physical Properties:White amorphous powder, odorless and tasteless. Freely soluble in water, forming a transparent colloidal solution; insoluble in ethanol, acetone and other organic solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral or slightly acidic, and stable to heat, light and air. Dextran is a glucose polymer produced by fermentation of sucrose with Leuconostoc mesenteroides, available in various molecular weight grades such as T-10, T-20, T-40 and T-70.
Uses:Primarily used as a plasma substitute and blood volume expander in clinical settings to improve microcirculation and treat shock. It is also used as a biochemical reagent, chromatographic separation medium and pharmaceutical excipient, as well as a thickener and stabilizer in the food industry.
