Physical Properties:White crystalline solid with a slight phenol odor. Melting point 98-101°C, boiling point 238°C, flash point 113°C (closed cup), relative density 0.908 (80°C). Almost insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone and other organic solvents.
Uses:Mainly used as an intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides (acaricide propargite and fungicide spiroxamine) and oil-soluble phenolic resins. It is also used as a reaction terminator in polycarbonate production (1-3% of resin) and as a modifier for epoxy and xylene resins. In addition, it serves as a stabilizer for rubber, soap, chlorinated hydrocarbons and nitrocellulose, as well as a surfactant, UV absorber and demulsifier component for oilfields.
