Platinum has extremely high chemical stability and is insoluble in common strong acids and alkalis; it dissolves only in aqua regia, molten alkalis, and mixtures of hydrochloric acid with hydrogen peroxide or perchloric acid. The main valence states of platinum are +2, +4, and +6.
