The working surface shall be free of molding sand, flat, and firmly painted; no cracks, shrinkage porosity, scratches, dents, rust spots or other defects affecting use are allowed. Sand holes with a diameter less than 15mm may be plugged with the same material, whose hardness shall be lower than that of the surrounding material. No more than 4 plugged sand holes are allowed on the working surface, and the spacing between holes shall not be less than 80mm. The working surface is usually processed by scraping. For Grade 3 surfaces processed by scraping, the maximum allowable surface roughness Ra is 5μm.
