Physical Properties:An optical flat is a cylindrical gauge with two (or one) optical measuring surfaces, made of optical glass or fused quartz. The optical measuring surface has extremely low surface roughness and flatness error and can generate light-wave interference fringes. Grade 1 optical flats have a flatness error of 0.03–0.05 μm. Uses:The plane optical flat is based on the principle of light-wave interference.
