Physical Properties:Polyphthalamide is a semi-aromatic polyamide derived from terephthalic or phthalic acid, available in semi-crystalline and amorphous forms. The semi-crystalline grade has a melting point of about 590°F (310°C) and a glass transition temperature of about 255°F (124°C). It is stiffer, harder, and more resistant to creep, fatigue, and chemicals than aliphatic polyamides such as nylon 66, while showing lower moisture sensitivity. At 23°C and 100% relative humidity it absorbs about 6% moisture, with a Tg not lower than 40°C and dimensional change no more than 1.0%. It exhibits excellent resistance to aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, alcohols and most aqueous solutions, but is not resistant to strong acids and strong oxidizers; it is soluble in phenol and cresol. PPA is not inherently flame retardant; flame-retardant grades comply with UL94.
Uses:It is mainly used for electrical/electronic components, household appliance parts, and automotive applications. Its high heat resistance, high strength, low moisture absorption, and good dimensional stability make it suitable for connectors, relays, switches, sensor housings, circuit board components, and metal replacement parts.
