Physical Properties:PPO is an amber transparent or black/gray opaque thermoplastic with a density of approximately 1.06 g/cm³, a molecular weight of 20,000–50,000, and a crystallinity of about 50%. It exhibits outstanding water and steam resistance; after 200 cycles in a 132°C autoclave, tensile and impact strengths show no significant change. It also features excellent dimensional stability, low creep, and high electrical insulation. The long-term service temperature ranges from -127°C to 120°C, with intermittent no-load operation up to 200°C, comparable to general thermosetting plastics.
Uses:PPO is easy to process and can be formed by extrusion, injection molding, and compression molding. It is used in medical devices as a substitute for stainless steel, capable of withstanding steam sterilization, and is also widely applied in mechanical parts, electronic components, and insulating materials. Blended with polystyrene, it forms high-performance engineering plastics, and can be reinforced with 20%–30% glass fiber or carbon fiber for high-strength insulating structural parts.
