Physical Properties:Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU) is usually in the form of highly elastic granules or sheets with a density of about 1.10–1.25 g/cm³. It has excellent low-temperature resistance, aging resistance, active oxygen resistance and radiation resistance; its weathering resistance is superior to natural rubber and styrene-butadiene rubber. It has a wide hardness range from about Shore A10 to Shore D80 and remains elastic above Shore A85, with high load-bearing capacity and good vibration damping. Its oil, fuel and corrosion resistance is better than nitrile rubber, and its wear resistance is outstanding (Taber abrasion loss 0.35–0.5 mg). Tensile strength is 2–3 times that of plastics and rubbers: about 60 MPa for polyester-based TPU and 50 MPa for polyether-based TPU; elongation at break is about 410% for polyester-based and greater than 300% for polyether-based.
Uses:It is mainly used in automotive industry, electrical/electronic industry, transportation and machinery manufacturing. Because of its excellent active oxygen resistance and radiation resistance, it is also suitable for special applications such as aerospace. It is additionally used for cable sheaths, seals, conveyor belts, shoe materials, films, hoses and wear-resistant parts.
