It uses a corrosion-resistant stainless steel crucible and oxygen bomb. The outer cylinder holds about 40L of water and the inner cylinder about 2.1L. The water jacket between the inner and outer cylinders effectively reduces heat exchange. During the test, the sample burns in the oxygen bomb filled with oxygen at about 3.0 MPa, and the calorific value is calculated from the water temperature rise.
