Physical Properties:Dark blue powder. Soluble in water to give a blue solution, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in organic solvents such as acetone and chloroform. In concentrated sulfuric acid it produces a deep blue color, which turns blue upon dilution. The shade may be affected by copper and iron ions; it exhibits good substantivity and leveling properties.
Uses:Mainly used for dyeing and printing of cellulosic fibers such as cotton, linen and viscose; also used for coloring paper and leather, as well as for dyeing silk and polyamide.
