Solubility in water (20 °C): 1.9 mg/L in distilled water, 1.9 mg/L at pH=5, 2.4 mg/L at pH=9; solubility in other solvents (20 °C, g/L): acetone 545.9, dichloromethane 22.3, toluene 3.0, hexane <0.028. Stable in water at pH=5 and 7, slowly hydrolyzed at pH=9 with DT50 about 28 days; slowly degraded under sunlight, but rapidly decomposed in aqueous solution upon light exposure.
Uses:Fipronil is a phenylpyrazole insecticide that acts as a GABA-chloride channel inhibitor. It has a broad insecticidal spectrum, primarily by stomach action, with additional contact and certain systemic activity. It exerts insecticidal activity by blocking the chloride metabolism regulated by γ-aminobutyric acid in insects, showing high efficacy against important pests such as aphids, leafhoppers, planthoppers, lepidopteran larvae, flies, and coleopterans, with no cross-resistance to existing insecticides. It can be applied to soil or as foliar spray, suitable for rice, corn, cotton, banana, sugar beet, potato, peanut and other crops, with no phytotoxicity at recommended doses.
