Physical Properties:Yellow or orange-yellow crystalline solid, readily soluble in water, ethanol, and ether; aqueous solution is acidic. Loses water of crystallization at 100°C, melts at low temperature, and decomposes upon heating.
Uses:Mainly used as a redox catalyst, such as direct oxidation of methane to formaldehyde, oxidation of propylene to acrolein and acetone, and ammoxidation of propylene to acrylonitrile. Also used as a weighting agent for silk and leather, raw material for organic pigments, and analytical reagent for detecting alkaloids, urea, xanthine, creatinine, ammonium ions, and amines. Used in microanalysis for determination of antimony, cerium, copper, thallium, and vanadium; applied in nerve staining with hematoxylin, as well as corrosion inhibitors and highway sign pigments.
