Physical Properties:Appears as dark red powder. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in xylene, tetrahydronaphthalene and other organic solvents. Dissolves in concentrated sulfuric acid giving a dark red solution, which turns into a red-violet precipitate upon dilution. Forms a stable yellow leuco compound in an alkaline sodium hydrosulfite reduction medium.
Uses:Mainly used for dyeing and printing of cotton, linen and other cellulosic fibers, and also for dyeing synthetic fibers such as vinylon. It exhibits a bright shade and excellent fastness to light, washing and chlorite bleaching, and is also suitable for the preparation of organic pigments.
