Physical Properties:Black flaky powder with a layered structure and a weakly acidic surface. When heated to the initial expansion temperature, it expands rapidly along the axial direction to form low-density worm-like graphite vermiculites. The expanded product has a large specific surface area and high surface energy, exhibiting excellent thermal insulation, oxidation resistance, and hydrophobicity. At high temperatures, it absorbs heat and releases water vapor, blocking oxygen and heat transfer.
Uses:Used as a halogen-free intumescent flame retardant in rigid/flexible polyurethane foam, EPS, XPS, coatings, plastics, rubber, asphalt, and sealing materials. On exposure to fire, it forms a compact intumescent carbon layer that blocks oxygen and heat transfer, while absorbing heat and releasing water vapor, offering low smoke, no dripping, and no toxic gas generation. It is often compounded with flame retardants such as APP and PER.
