Uses:Scandium trifluoride is a key precursor for the preparation of scandium metal, scandium alloys and scandium-based fluorides, and is widely used as an additive for Al–Sc alloys and in the manufacture of fluoride glasses. By exploiting its negative thermal expansion at low temperatures, it can be combined with positive-thermal-expansion materials to produce zero-expansion or low-expansion precision components.
