Physical Properties:Green or violet crystalline powder, readily soluble in water, the aqueous solution appears violet or green; insoluble in ethanol. Molecular weight of the anhydrous form is 392.18, relative density approximately 1.7. Gradually loses water of crystallization when heated above 100°C; at high temperatures it decomposes into chromium(III) oxide and sulfur dioxide.
Uses:Mainly used in leather tanning, chromium electroplating, catalyst preparation and pigment manufacturing. It is also used as a mordant in the dyeing industry and as a colorant for ceramic glazes.
