It usually exists as the hexahydrate, which loses water of crystallization upon heating to become a yellow crystalline powder. It reacts with alkalis to release ammonia gas and form nickel(II) hydroxide.
Uses:Mainly used in electroplating industry as a nickel source for nickel plating. It is also used as a chemical analytical reagent for nickel determination, and for the preparation of other nickel salts.
