Physical Properties:Black crystalline solid, hygroscopic, soluble in water and ethanol. Density approx. 1.02 g/mL (aqueous solution). Decomposes on heating; no definite boiling point; not flammable; flash point not applicable. Strongly corrosive.
Uses:Used as a catalyst for the electrochemical synthesis of polyaniline on non-noble metal electrode surfaces. Also used to form iridium-substituted Dawson-type and Keggin-type polyoxometalates by reoccupying vacancies of lacunary precursors. Additionally, it is an important precursor for iridium-based catalysts and iridium complexes.
