Decomposes above 80°C, releasing silicon tetrafluoride gas. Readily soluble in water, insoluble in alcohol. The aqueous solution is acidic. Reacts with alkalis to form the corresponding fluorides and silicon dioxide.
Uses:Used as a concrete hardener and waterproofing agent to improve the surface hardness and impermeability of concrete; also used as a wood preservative, ceramic glaze flux, and coagulant for silica latex.
