Soluble in inert organic solvents such as n-hexane, diethyl ether and tetrahydrofuran; decomposes violently in contact with water or air. Uses:Used as a strong base and nucleophilic reagent in organic synthesis for introducing the trimethylsilylmethyl group; widely applied in carbon–carbon bond construction in pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis, as well as in organocatalytic reactions and the preparation of organometallic reagents.
