It decomposes upon contact with water or air and should be stored under inert gas. Density approx. 0.97 g/mL (0.5 M in THF), flash point approx. -17°C (closed cup), boiling point approx. 65–67°C (tetrahydrofuran).
Uses:Used as a Grignard reagent to introduce tert-butyl groups in organic synthesis for the preparation of tert-butyl alcohols, substituted ketones, carboxylic acids, and complex organic compounds. Also applied in fine chemical production, pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis, and as a polymerization initiator.
