Physical Properties:Dark blue uniform powder, readily soluble in water to give a blue solution, slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in acetone. Turns blue-black in concentrated sulfuric acid and blue after dilution; turns brown-yellow in concentrated nitric acid. This is an anionic azo dye with direct substantivity for cellulosic fibers and excellent light fastness.
Uses:Primarily used for dyeing and printing of cellulosic fibers such as cotton, linen, and viscose, as well as for dyeing silk and nylon. Also used as an acid-base indicator and biological stain.
