It is a magnesium porphyrin compound and the primary photosynthetic pigment, sensitive to light, heat and acids; readily demetallated under acidic conditions.
Uses:Used as a natural pigment, food additive and cosmetic ingredient, as well as an important biochemical research reagent. Widely applied in studies of photosynthesis mechanisms and used as a photosensitizer in photodynamic therapy research.
