Melting point about 180°C with decomposition. Appears yellow in alkaline solutions and red in acidic solutions, with a pH transition range of 4.4–6.0.
Uses:Mainly used as an acid-base indicator, changing from red to yellow in the pH range 4.4–6.0. It is also used in biological staining, precipitation titrations in analytical chemistry, and preparation of mixed indicators, as well as an intermediate in organic synthesis.
