Physical Properties:White or off-white crystalline powder with a characteristic odor and slight hygroscopicity. Soluble in water, ethanol, and dilute acids; slightly soluble in chloroform and ether. Melting point approximately 190-205°C. Stable in air.
Uses:Primarily used for the treatment of hepatolenticular degeneration (Wilson's disease) and heavy metal poisoning, serving as a chelating antidote for lead and mercury intoxication. Also used for rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, and other autoimmune diseases, as well as cystinuria.
