Physical Properties:White monoclinic crystal or amorphous powder; odorless, non-toxic, stable in air; relative density 2.16; slightly soluble in water, aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, solubility in water 0.02% (15°C); readily soluble in acids and ammonium salt solutions, decomposes with dilute acids releasing carbon dioxide; decomposes above 300°C producing water, carbon dioxide and magnesium oxide.
Uses:Used as a pharmaceutical intermediate, antacid, desiccant, color protectant, carrier and anti-caking agent; serves as a food additive and magnesium supplement; used in fine chemicals for producing chemical reagents; acts as a reinforcing agent and filler in rubber; also applied in thermal insulation, high-temperature fireproofing materials and surface polishing of enamel and ceramics.
