Freely soluble in water, yielding an acidic solution; insoluble in ethanol. It effloresces in air and the surface gradually turns light brown. Should be stored in airtight containers protected from light.
Uses:Mainly used as an analytical reagent, serving as an indicator in the determination of halogens and in redox titration analysis. It is also used as a mordant, a raw material in the pharmaceutical industry, and an intermediate for preparing high-purity iron salts.
