Physical Properties:This product is a white to light yellow powder, granules or fiber, odorless, tasteless and hygroscopic. It is insoluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, acetone and diethyl ether; it can swell in water to form a transparent viscous colloidal solution and is also soluble in dilute alkali solution. The colloidal solution exhibits thickening, emulsifying, suspending, film-forming and adhesive properties. Its viscosity varies with concentration and temperature, and it is applicable over a wide pH range.
Uses:Used as a thickener, suspending agent, emulsifier, binder and film-forming agent, widely applied in food, pharmaceutical, papermaking, textile, coatings and oilfield industries. The acid-form carboxymethyl cellulose can also be used as an ion-exchange cellulose for separation and purification of biomacromolecules, and is used to prepare sodium carboxymethyl cellulose.
