Physical Properties:White or off-white powder, odorless and tasteless. Soluble in water and some organic solvents; insoluble in ethanol, ether and chloroform. The aqueous solution is transparent and stable with surface activity, and gels upon heating, reverting on cooling. It has thickening, suspending, emulsifying, film-forming and water-retention properties.
Uses:Used as thickener, suspending agent, binder and film-forming agent. Widely applied in building materials (cement mortar, gypsum), coatings, pharmaceuticals (tablet coating, sustained-release preparations), food, daily chemicals and oilfield drilling.
