Physical Properties:Polypropylene is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with a density of 0.90–0.91 g/cm³, a melting point of approximately 165–170°C, and a Vicat softening temperature of 150°C. It is harder and has a higher melting point than PE. Homopolymer PP becomes brittle below 0°C; commercial PP is often a random copolymer containing 1–4% ethylene or a block copolymer with higher ethylene content. Copolymer PP has a lower heat distortion temperature (100°C), lower transparency, lower gloss, and lower rigidity, but higher impact strength, which increases with ethylene content. The MFR range is 1–40; materials with low MFR have better impact resistance but lower elongation strength. Due to high crystallinity, it has good surface stiffness and scratch resistance, and is free from environmental stress cracking. Mold shrinkage is 1.8–2.5%, reducible to 0.7% with 30% glass fiber addition. It has excellent moisture resistance and resistance to acids and alkalis, but is not resistant to aromatic hydrocarbon solvents (e.g., benzene) or chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents (e.g., carbon tetrachloride), and has lower oxidation resistance at high temperatures than PE.

Uses:Used for producing various long and short polypropylene fibers, polypropylene woven bags, sacks, and injection-molded products. Also used for flame-retardant components in electrical appliances, telecommunications, lighting, and television sets.
