Physical Properties:A white, highly crystalline, rigid and brittle polymer. Relative density is about 1.3 (increases after modification). Water absorption is approximately 0.03%. Oxygen index is above 44%, exhibiting excellent flame retardancy. Mechanical properties are insensitive to temperature. It has high rigidity with a flexural modulus of 3.8 GPa for pure PPS and up to 12.6 GPa after inorganic filling. Excellent wear resistance with abrasion loss of only 0.04 g per 1000 revolutions. Short-term heat resistance up to 260°C, long-term service temperature 200–240°C. Outstanding electrical properties with low dielectric constant and dielectric loss tangent, good arc resistance. Excellent chemical corrosion resistance, but not resistant to concentrated sulfuric acid, concentrated nitric acid, aqua regia and other strong oxidizing media. Good radiation resistance.
Uses:Widely used in the automotive industry (about 45%) for functional parts such as igniters, heaters, thermostats, lamp sockets, bearings, exhaust recycle valves, and water pump impellers. In the machinery industry, it is used for housings, structural parts, wear-resistant parts and sealing materials such as pump bodies, valves, bearings, piston rings, and gears. It is also used for special industrial dust removal filter fibers, motor insulation films, and insulating paper.
